Casino Royale

2006
Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer/Columbia Pictures
PG-13
[star.gif][star.gif][star.gif]1/2

In this new James Bond entry, newly appointed 007 (Daniel Craig) has been reported to find out how many terrorist organizations are financed when M (Judi Dench) and the MI6 know nothing about them. Being put into a high-stakes poker game in Montenegro Casino Royale against stock gambler Le Chiffre (Mads Mikkelsen), Bond finds love with the attractive Vesper Lynd.
After a long line of inaccurate performances after Sean Connery, Craig gives just the right Bond personality gentleman spy. The action is terrific, and humor is appealing. Followed by QUANTUM OF SOLACE.

10,000 BC

2008
Warner Bros. Pictures
PG-13
[star.gif]1/2

In a desperate attempt to save his loved one, D'Leh (Steven Strait) sets out on a journey to a place where his tribe is being enslaved by pyramid builders who haunt them with mammoths. Evolet (Camille Belle), D'Leh's love interest, is believed to be related with Lordship to the pyramid builders.
With absolutely nothing to rely on here but visual effects, (which are very superior) this epic contains a lousy script and plotline that makes it completely boring. Only a battle finale saves my least favorite film of all time, which was released on my birthday.

Night of the Living Dead

1968
The Walter Reade Organization
Not Rated
[star.gif][star.gif][star.gif]

In this horror film that basically set the rules for the zombie genre, Barbra Bickering (Judith O'Dea) is chased off from a graveyard to a farmhouse by a resurrected man, and forced to barricade herself inside the house from a swarm of zombies, along with Ben (Duane Jones, the first black man to play a lead role in a movie), and five other people.
When this suspenseful chiller was first released, many people did not want to sleep with the lights off, now many are brave enough to watch this film providing simple entertainment, which led director George A. Romero to stardom. For an extremely low-budget, this scared the crap out of so many people, which more saw than any other film in the year.

Die Hard With a Vengeance

1995
20th Century Fox
R
[star.gif][star.gif][star.gif]

Third entry in the DIE HARD series is an awesome thrill ride starting with an explosion, when cop-turned bum John McClane is turned back into a cop, tracking down a mysterious man named Simon (Jeremy Irons), who is also the brother of the bad guy from the first film. Meanwhile, black, sort of racist guy Zeus Carver (Samuel L. Jackson) saves McClane from being beaten from other black guys and ends up running with him.
Like the second one, sort of ruined by illogical elements, but doesn't stop the film from being wholly fun. With a side of funny and sometimes black------ dark comedy, a fun ride with tons of action.

The Terminator

1984
Orion Pictures/Hemdale
R
[star.gif][star.gif][star.gif]1/2

Thrilling and exciting sci-fi/action flick about an L.A. woman named Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton), who is stalked by a human-looking cyborg (Arnold Schwarzenegger), known as the Terminator, from the year 2029, who is sent back to the present to kill her to prevent the machine race from being destroyed. A man from the same year, Kyle Reese (Michael Biehn), is sent to protect her so her son can save the human resistance.
This kind of film from over 20 years ago still thrills today, with awesome chases and cyborg designs to attract you to the screen (though because it's low-budget, the way the Terminator walks kind of bugs you). Schwarzenegger may be the bad guy, but he is beyond the most fun to watch. I'd be glad to watch this and its sequels anytime.

The Dark Knight

2008
Warner Bros. Pictures
PG-13
[star.gif][star.gif][star.gif][star.gif]

In this rich film following 2005's BATMAN BEGINS, Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale), the Batman, is now hunting a sinister person known as the Joker (Heath Ledger), with the help of his assistants, Alfred (Michael Caine), and Lucius Fox (Morgan Freeman). Meanwhile, he learns his love interest, Rachel Dawes (Maggie Gyllenhaal), is engaged to businessman Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart), who makes his own luck.
This entry has completely sizzled the superhero motion picture experience, putting in crime settings and thrilling the whole audience. Ledger is perfect in his role, and this has become my favorite movie of all time. Anyone who doesn't like this is completely out of their minds.

Surf's Up

2007
Columbia Pictures
PG
[star.gif][star.gif][star.gif]

A 17-year-old penguin named Cody Maverick (Shia LaBeouf) from Shiverpool, Antarctica, who admires a pro surfer, "Big Z" (Jeff Bridges), goes to an island with a bunch of surfers, including Chicken Joe (Jon Heder), whom he befriends, along with a sleek penguin named Lani Aliikai (Zooey Deschanel) to become a great surfer, where he also meets Z himself.
Though little more than a feature-length surfing newscast, it manages to be enjoyable and funny, with great characteristics. Even documentaries are funny, especially the ones with Arnold, the little penguin who despises the big, rude penguin surfer, Tank Evans (Diedrich Bader).

Wanted

2008
Universal Pictures
R
[star.gif][star.gif][star.gif]1/2

Young Wesley Gibson (James McAvoy), a troubled and unconfident man who is also the son of a professional assassin is picked up by a mysterious woman named Fox (Angelina Jolie), and trained with the help of team leader Sloan (Morgan Freeman).
Starts out with crazy training business, then turns into an exciting, compelling, and thrilling action film that turns everything into things that make total sense. The loom deciding who should be killed is pretty ludicrous, but the film is still a crackling ride which is beyond hard to even match.

Titanic

1997
20th Century Fox/Paramount Pictures
PG-13
[star.gif][star.gif][star.gif]1/2

When treasure hunters find a drawing of a naked woman named Rose DeWitt Bukater (Kate Winslet), the elderly Rose tells them of her life on the Titanic as a 17-year-old on her way home back to America. On the ship, she meets Jack Dawson (Leonardo DiCaprio), a poor immigrant and artist, and they fall in love and are seperated as the Titanic strikes an iceberg and starts to sink on April 14, 1912.
Astonishing and emotional romance story is deliberately enjoyable, and while it may be very long at 194 minutes, everything is very thorough. More people have gone to the movies to see this than any other movie; and, boy, did they make a great choice! First film since BEN-HUR to win 11 Academy Awards including Best Picture.

CaddyShack

1980
Orion Pictures
R

A Roman Catholic named Danny Noonan (Michael O'Keefe) who works as a caddy at a country club tries to get a college scholarship from the owner, Judge Smails (Ted Knight), a pompous rich man who usually acts way in over his head. Meanwhile, one of Smails' companions, Ty Webb (Chevy Chase), shows Danny how to become the ball. Loudmouth Al Czervik (Rodney Dangerfield) bets money on shots Smails takes, and assistant greenskeeper Carl Spackler (Bill Murray) is encountered with a gopher (Mr. Gopher) and is starting a war to welcome him.
This comedy does have a few problems, such as a bunch of random things over and over, and characters who sometimes act stupid (and often funny), but this also one of the most enjoyable of its kind. At the time of this film's release, a lot of people hated this, now many consider it a classic.

Die Hard 2

1990
20th Century Fox
R
[star.gif][star.gif][star.gif]

While waiting for his wife's (Bonnie Bedelia) plane to land, new L.A. cop John McClane (Bruce Willis) gets caught up in stopping terrorists led by the notorious Colonel Stuart (William Sadler) from rescuing a drug lord (Franco Nero) from justice. Plus, with his wife's plane desperately low on fuel, McClane has only an hour and a half to save the plane from crashing.
Despite way too many coincidences and miracles, this action film manages to be very entertaining, and fans of the original will not be disappointed. Just don't expect the logical. Followed by DIE HARD WITH A VENGEANCE.

Die Hard

1988
20th Century Fox
R
[star.gif][star.gif][star.gif]1/2

New York cop John McClane (Bruce Willis) has come to Los Angeles to see his wife Holly (Bonnie Bedelia) on Christmas Eve. But during the Christmas party, terrorists Hans Gruber (Alan Rickman), his savage henchman Karl (Alexander Godunov), and 10 other terrorists seize control of the building, holding 30 people hostage, while McClane slips away unnoticed. Soon, it all comes out to be just a robbery, one that would have to be hidden from everybody in order not to find them.
Utterly enjoyable action film, with great sequences of violence and suspense. After a while, it may have seemed to have been going on too long, but once it gets close to the end, you'll wish you never even thought about leaving. Followed by DIE HARD 2.

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe

2005
Walt Disney Pictures
PG
[star.gif] [star.gif] [star.gif]

Four British children, Lucy (Georgie Henley), Edmund (Skandar Keynes), Susan (Anna Popplewell), and Peter Pevensie (William Moseley) move to Finchley, the home of a professor, to hide from the air raids. While there, Lucy finds a wardrobe that leads to a magical world of strange creatures, good and evil. The four find themselves caught up in war against the White Witch (Tilda Swinton) and given help by the King of Narnia, Aslan (Liam Neeson).
A wonderful, imaginative, and exciting spectacle of magic based on the best-selling book by C.S. Lewis. After you see it a lot of times, you really would want to see it all the way through. Followed in 2008 by THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA: PRINCE CASPIAN.
