1/2Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley) set out with the crew of the Black Pearl to find Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) and save him from Davy Jones' (Bill Nighy) Locker. Meanwhile, Lord Cutler Beckett (Tom Hollander) is plotting to take over the sea and put an end to piracy for good.
Too many storylines wind up keeping this from being understandable, and some of the action doesn't even make sense, but all the style and performances pretty much save the show. The main reason this is better than its predecessor: the script is less routine.

The notorious pirate Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) sets off to get his ship, the Black Pearl, from the evil, wily Captain Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush). Brave, courageous blacksmith Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) sets off with Jack to rescue his childhood friend and love interest, Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley). Soon, Jack, Will, and Elizabeth find out a curse has been placed on the ship, making Barbossa and his crew live forever as the undead.
Entertaining Disney feature delivers lots of action and intensity, with a stellar story too. Believe it or not, I'm one of the very few who knew there would be a sequel. Followed by PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MAN'S CHEST.

1/2 In this sequel to the 2003 Disney hit, Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) sets off to find Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) to get a compass from him to free his fiance, Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley). Jack and Will Find out that Jack owes his soul and an eternity of service on the Flying Dutchman to Davy Jones (Bill Nighy).
Only a script this predictable could torpedo this sequel low enough as to drain all the charm away from the leads who had so much more wit before. On top of it all, this is Disney's most financially successful film, and is the only one in the series to have won an Oscar. Followed by PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: AT WORLD'S END.

1/2
IMF Agent Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) is sent on a mission led by Jim Phelps (Jon Voight) to find a codename list called the NOC list, planned to be stolen by a terrorist group. But then Ethan realizes the man they were tracking wasn't even the one responsible, and now he must find out who really was and retrieve the NOC list.
Seems a little like an old 40s movie, also seems to be one bad guy after another. And if you came for really intense action, you'll have to wait until the very end, which is so cool, and it doesn't really matter too much because some of the action scenes are still entertaining. Followed in 2000 by MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE II.
